BlindSquare: Description and Uses

BlindSquare is a smartphone application designed as an assistive technology for people who are blind or visually impaired. It is an accessible GPS navigation app that provides detailed information about a user’s surroundings through voice feedback.

The app uses the phone’s GPS and compass to determine location, then gathers information from mapping services like Foursquare and OpenStreetMap. It processes this data and speaks out useful information such as nearby places, streets, and directions.

BlindSquare works mainly on iPhones and integrates with screen readers, allowing users to navigate safely without needing to see the screen.
